Migration

Migration to the Cloud

With Infiniti’s Amazon Web Services (AWS), you can provision computing power, storage and other resources, gaining access to a suite of elastic IT infrastructure services as your business demands them. With minimal cost and effort, you can move your applications to the AWS cloud and reduce capital expenses, minimize support and administrative costs, and retain the performance, security, and reliability requirements your business demands.

Increasingly more enterprises are moving applications to the cloud to modernize their current IT asset base or to prepare for future needs. They are taking the plunge, picking up a few mission-critical applications to move to the cloud, then quickly realizing there are other applications that are also a good fit.

Some organizations prefer to take an incremental approach to cloud migration — this may not always be the most holistic or successful approach. With any migration, related to the cloud or not, there are one-time costs involved. There may also be resistance to change among your end-users and decision-makers and small or large-scale organizational culture shifts to be bridged.

A successful migration depends on three things: the complexity of the application architecture; how loosely coupled your application is; and correctly planning and executing the migration with skilled staff.

In addition to technical migration capabilities, Infiniti’s AWS cloud services team has extensive project management and cultural change management experience to help you ensure a successful migration project.

There are many different approaches to cloud adoption. At the outset of a cloud migration project we encourage our customers to create a vision statement and identify the key benefits they are seeking from the cloud. Creating a firm business case can allow you to accurately track the outcomes achieved following the cloud deployment.

Infiniti’s cloud architects and engineers work closely with your team to determine the best approach for your company. We then careful plan every detail of the migration to help ensure a seamless transition and successful deployment.

Common approaches

  1. Move test and development environments to the cloud
  2. Integrate on-premises applications with the cloud for additional resources
  3. Build new applications in the cloud
  4. Enable cloud applications with on-premise processes
  5. Migrate existing applications to the cloud
  6. Consolidate data centers with a cloud data center
  7. Adopt an all-in-one cloud strategy

4 Approaches to Migration Strategy

Rehost

Rehost involves moving existing physical and virtual servers into a compatible IaaS solution. Rehosting increases the speed of migration while reducing the risk.

Replatform

Replatform involves changing the operating system or database engine. This allows the option to use cloud services that are close to existing infrastructure without requiring code change, for example, RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon EFS and Amazon WorkSpaces.

Rearchitect (replace)

Rearchitect involves replacing the application with a SaaS offering COTS product. In this migration option you are rebuilding application architecture by eliminating dependency on custom hardware or proprietary technology platforms.

Refactor

Re-examine how the application is architected and developed, utilizing new cloud-native features for performance, scaling and agility. This includes changing the middleware by re-coding application components. Refactoring is flexible in porting and globalization and is adaptive to modern consumer needs.
